About The Position

Responsible for providing leadership and direction to the operations of the Transportation Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative/supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of public education and driving improvement in student achievement.
  • Ability to use quantitative and qualitative information in an instructional setting to drive decision-making and evaluation.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with systems thinking and the ability to analyze organizational situations from structural, human capital, political, and cultural perspectives.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and synthesize information carefully to develop an effective course of action.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully, appropriately, and effectively with individuals and groups, including the Board of Education, Superintendent, Executive Cabinet team, the Board Attorney, district staff, local school staff, and the community.
  • Ability to exhibit a consistent sense of urgency around improving student performance, closing the achievement gap, and making the instructional improvements needed to do so.
  • Ability to make challenging decisions, remain professional under stress, and possess exceptional judgement.
  • Ability to coach others to drive student achievement gains and work collaboratively to build consensus while also delivering exceptional results.
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities.

  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Must be able to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential factors in performing essential tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team, acting as a strategic leader and spokesperson on behalf of the Superintendent and Henry County Schools.
  • Positively and proactively participate in leadership meetings, representing the Superintendent and district priorities.
  • Ensure strong, on-going communications with principals and district leaders.
  • Provide supervision and support for assigned department staff.
  • Supervise all facets of transportation services.
  • Ensure the evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation services and assist with the development of a growth and replacement plan for the full fleet.
  • Actively participate in the budget process and monitor spending related to transportation.
  • Assist with the creation of growth and development opportunities for district-level and school-level staff.
  • Keep abreast of federal and state laws and policies related to transportation and establish procedures to assure required compliance of these laws and policies.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
