About The Position

Prime Healthcare is an award-winning health system headquartered in Ontario, California, operating 54 hospitals and over 360 outpatient locations in 15 states, serving more than 3.0 million patients annually with over 60,000 employees and physicians. The Executive Director of Laboratory Services acts as the second-in-command to the Vice President of Laboratory Services, providing enterprise-wide oversight, strategic direction, and leadership for clinical laboratory operations. This role is the primary operational extension of the VP, ensuring system strategy aligns with execution across all laboratory service lines. The Executive Director oversees laboratory operations, financial performance, and regulatory compliance, while Corporate Laboratory Directors handle direct execution. The position focuses on ensuring consistency, standardization, and integration of laboratory services across the health system, emphasizing quality, patient safety, and regulatory excellence, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement to meet clinical and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • MLS (ASCP), CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist license) or equivalent licensure / certification
  • Minimum of 8 -15+ years of progressive clinical laboratory experience
  • At least 5 years of supervisory or senior management experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Experience in regulatory compliance, including CLIA, CAP, TJC, ACHC, and other regulatory / accreditation bodies
  • Proven track record in budget management, staffing oversight, and operational improvement initiatives

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA)
  • Exceptional communication skills / professional presence with ability to lead and drive change on a national scale
  • Experience in integrated health system
  • Lean Sigma or process improvement certification
  • Experience implementing or managing laboratory automation system and/or Core/Reference Lab
  • Strong background in healthcare finance or business operations
  • Experience in hospital/lab acquisitions

Responsibilities
