Description The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of constituent engagement, donor research and solicitation, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. We are currently seeking an Executive Director of Fund Management. The Operations department plays a crucial role in supporting the administrative and operational needs of the Advancement and Alumni Engagement division. This support encompasses various areas including financial management, data analysis, prospect development, stewardship, gift and records administration, technology and fundraising support. The Gift Operations team supports all Advancement and Alumni Engagement departments by overseeing new gift agreements, monthly annual fundraising reports, and receiving and processing gifts for Emory University and Emory Healthcare. This position will report to the Senior Associate Vice President - Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience in advancement, accounting, IT, or related field with management or leadership experience.

  • Successful candidates will possess extensive experience managing projects, budgets, and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Proficiency in fundraising reporting and counting.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting systems (FASB 116 and 117 specifically) and IRS regulations with regard to charitable giving and reporting practices, particularly those related to a higher-education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, and navigate a complex work environment.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Master’s level degree.
  • Experience leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Prior experience in administrative management, advancement, fundraising, campaign, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with all laws, regulations, and institutional policies related to donor intent restrictions and documented donor restrictions including use and purpose of philanthropic funds and the timely and prudent expenditure of restricted funds across Emory.
  • Utilizes relevant data and documentation to monitor the use of funds and work with school/unit leaders as well as relevant stakeholders and partners to ensure that funds are being utilized appropriately.
  • Meets directly with school and unit leaders including deans, directors, and senior finance staff to review funds and ensure utilization as intended.
  • Ensures that the institution has appropriate processes for sharing terms and documentation related to any funds with fiscal officers and effective methods for financial accountability of donor-supported funds.
  • Provides counsel to financial officers and staff centrally and in schools & units as needed to help develop alternative plans for utilizing funds if necessary.
  • Refines and develops institutional policies that define and support their activities as well as related responsibilities for institutional staff both centrally and in schools & units regarding the appropriate and timely use of donor-supported restricted funds.
  • Partners with AAE and institutional leadership on specific initiatives and projects.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
