About The Position

The Director of Alumni Engagement serves a pivotal role in the development and leadership of the Alumni Engagement Strategic Plan. As the primary liaison between 10,000 Degrees and our college graduates, the Director fosters meaningful connections through planning and evaluation of professional programs and events. This position acts as a “connector” to leverage our alumni network, cultivating corporate partnerships and supporting our mission through volunteerism, sponsorships, and internship opportunities. Bridging the gap between college and career, this role ensures our alumni have the resources to realize their full potential as change-makers in their communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in student or alumni advising, higher education, or corporate partnerships
  • 3+ years developing and leading student/alumni programs and overseeing high-growth partnerships
  • Expert project and event management skills with the ability to balance high-level strategy with meticulous detail
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills, with a proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience working with fundraising teams and serving as an organization ambassador
  • Ability to think strategically, take initiative, and manage multiple concurrent priorities
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and project management tools
  • This position requires some in-person presence at our San Rafael office, as well as travel within the San Francisco Bay Area and other regions served.

Responsibilities

  • Alumni Engagement & Programming
  • Spearhead a comprehensive strategy to showcase the alumni community to students prior to graduation that engages alumni of all ages through volunteer service, board participation, and career-focused events.
  • Cultivate deep relationships with alumni to incorporate their ideas and voices into the evolving engagement strategy.
  • Source and promote civic engagement for our network, including recruiting alumni for 10,000 Degrees board service, organizational planning, and keynote speaking opportunities.
  • Manage the alumni communications strategy, including a dedicated newsletter and oversight of social media and email outreach.
  • Career Services & Partnerships
  • Serve as a “connector” between alumni, their current employers, and 10,000 Degrees to secure internships, corporate sponsorships, and employee volunteerism.
  • Oversee professional development services, connecting alumni with Career Mentors and providing 1:1 advising as needed.
  • Manage job search support for upcoming graduates, including communication strategies and events that bridge the gap between college and career.
  • Coordinate with the College Success Team to support graduating students’ transition into the alumni network and the workforce, including a referral program for employer partners looking to hire graduating students and alumni for full-time roles.
  • Represent 10,000 Degrees at community events–occasionally on evenings and/or weekends– to cultivate partnerships and present to various boards and stakeholders.
  • Data & Evaluation
  • Lead the planning, collection, and impact-sharing process for the annual Alumni Survey to track employment and economic mobility outcomes.
  • Manage alumni data to develop tools that help the organization understand alumni geographies, industry concentrations, and potential corporate connections.
  • Align efforts with other key departments (Development, Data & Evaluation, College Success, etc.) to ensure alumni engagement supports broader organizational goals.
  • Research and remain current on national employment trends and best practices specifically for low-income, first-generation graduates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
