University Advancement is seeking (1) Executive Director of Development, Robinson College of Business to join the already incredible team taking Georgia State University to the next level of excellence! Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Advancement, the Executive Director of Development (EDOD) manages the engagement of University Advancement’s most capable and generous donors in considering transformational gifts to support Robinson College of Business and the Dean’s highest priorities. The EDOD is responsible for managing an individual portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, which comprises a significant portion of their cohort’s annual and campaign fundraising totals. Working closely with the Associate Vice President, Development, departmental leadership and faculty, the EDOD develops and leads initiatives for the Campaign for Georgia State University and executes the unit’s key development strategies by securing on an annual basis, private support primarily at the principal gift level ($250K+), as well as leading and overseeing the overall fundraising efforts of the unit. The EDOD will lead the identification, qualification, fine-tuned strategic engagement, solicitation and highly personalized stewardship of high-level prospects and donors. As the leader of the cohort development team, serves in concert with the overall priorities of the University, providing leadership in formulating and implementing effective goals, strategies, and activities to secure major and principal gifts for their cohort and for Georgia State University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and ten years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals/designs are met and implements highly specialized program activities to achieve these goals.
  • Maintain personal prospect/donor portfolio of principal gift ($250K+) prospects.
  • Personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for individuals, corporations and foundations capable of contributing principal gifts in excess of $1M.
  • Oversee the design and execution of individualized strategies for the solicitation, negotiation, and successful closure of gifts, and the design and execution of personalized stewardship plans of $1M+ gifts to University Advancement.
  • Presents formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects or prepares senior management for the presentation of proposals.
  • Prepare and edit proposals/presentations needed for the successful solicitation of gifts.
  • Strategically engage, prepare and brief academic leadership in the cohort to participate in major and principal gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Qualify major gift prospects and solicit gifts directly.
  • Develops, creates, writes, implements, and/or evaluates individualized marketing plans and/or strategies for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, gift planning or corporate / foundation prospects (strategies typically require a high degree of innovation).
  • Oversee the recruiting and training of volunteers to assist in appropriate capacities in the fundraising program.
  • Writes complex proposals for solicitation of high-value individuals, corporate, and/or foundation prospects.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain fundraising programs for activities to include efforts addressing current funding priorities, special events fundraising initiatives, and leadership in the development of individual and programmatic strategies.
  • Oversee donor recognition and stewardship programs in the Cohort.
  • Provide effective and efficient support to the team on issues related to University policies and procedures, development policy, management controls, accountability, risk management, performance standards, and strategic planning.
  • Develop procedures and strategies for gift solicitation, customizing the method of cultivation and solicitation to individual, corporate, or foundation needs at the principal gift level of $1 million+.
  • Creates, establishes, and evaluates methods for building/maintaining prospect and volunteer constituencies and identifies, recruits, and directs the activities of high-level volunteers.
  • Prepare annual cultivation and solicitation plans, as well as regular reports on achievements for University leaders.
  • Engage academic leaders and development staff in ongoing assessment of approaches in order to establish and sustain a donor-centered operation that serves the entire University.
  • Oversee the design and management of programs implemented to engage volunteers and donors in activities benefiting the University, such as Deans’ advisory councils.
  • Strategic decisions and results have a major impact on the overall goals of the / program.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in the delivery of staffing support to University Advancement and academic leadership.
  • Exercise judgment and independent initiative in bringing information or issues to the VP, Advancement.
  • Develop and/or review all fundraising proposals and feasibility studies for proposed fundraising programs, for review by, and with recommendations as to appropriate action.
  • Oversee the prioritization of projects, programs, and activities.
  • Provide counsel and propose strategies regarding the feasibility of raising private support for campus activities and projects not funded through state appropriations, such as endowments and physical facilities.
  • Serves as a resource for the assigned area of expertise, interacting with prospects, donors, staff, and outside professionals to provide information, advice, and counsel regarding the assigned specialized program(s).
  • May oversee the work of professional and support staff.
  • In concurrence with the VP, Advancement and Associate Vice President, Development recruits, selects, trains, and evaluates the directors of fundraising programs and staff personnel in development.
  • Screen applications, interview candidates and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hire with dean or directors.
  • On-board, train and assign work to new and continuing employees.
  • Provide guidance on performance standards and University procedures.
  • Independently conduct performance evaluations, including communication with subordinate.
  • Make recommendations for salary increases including merits and reclassifications.
  • Determine what discipline should be imposed for subordinates, with authority to apply such, and/or submits/recommends same to higher level management.
  • Provide professional growth and training of staff.
  • Establish and supervise procedures to ensure performance standards and compliance with University regulations and policies.
  • With responsibility for overseeing a medium-to-large team, coach and mentor individuals/teams to improve job knowledge.
  • May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal / external committees as a representative of Georgia State University Advancement.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Vice President, UA, Associate Vice President, Development, , and appropriate academic leadership to assure that fundraising is appropriately consistent with the VP’s vision and with academic priorities; communicate and coordinate with the dean/directors and faculty.
  • Create environments that enhance communication and collaboration between individuals within University Advancement. , and others throughout Advancement and the campus overall.
  • Serve as an advocate for Advancement and campus leadership development staff.
  • Provide some general guidance and liaison with other professionals who, while not full-time development officers, have fundraising related responsibilities included in their duties.
  • Participate in the review, analysis, and creation of University Advancement policies and procedures.
  • Participate in other Georgia State University development activities including meetings, committees, etc. when requested to do so.
  • Responsible for budget management, to include proposing annual budget requests, developing and implementing funding agreements, and continually assessing budgetary and staff requirements for all areas of responsibility.
