About The Position

Another Source’s client, Chico State Enterprises, has an immediate opening for an Executive Director, North State Public Radio to join their team in Chico, CA. North State Public Radio (NSPR), the #1 radio station in the region according to Nielsen ratings, is seeking an Executive Director to serve as a visible, strategic, and community-centered leader for the organization. This role is focused on community leadership, relationship-building, fundraising, and representing a trusted public media institution, even without prior public radio or FCC expertise. With a strong and experienced team in place handling day-to-day operations, the Executive Director can focus on long-term strategy, partnerships, and expanding NSPR’s impact across the region. This search is led by Another Source, a recruitment firm focused on mission-driven organizations and higher education. The Executive Director will be employed by Chico State Enterprises, an auxiliary organization of California State University, Chico within the CSU system. About Chico State Enterprises: The purpose of Chico State Enterprises (CSE) is to help develop and administer those activities that aid and supplement the educational mission of CSU, Chico. As a non-profit corporation, it facilitates the work of campus units and provides alternatives to state procedures. CSE administers hundreds of projects annually with annual revenues of about $120 million.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial oversight, and fundraising.
  • Experience with donor relations.

  • Familiarity with public media principles and FCC regulations, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and operate within them.
  • Comfort with broadcast, digital media, and related technologies.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Knowledge of the local community and cultural landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall vision, strategic direction, and leadership for the station.
  • Supervise and support staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, including reporting on station performance and strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC, CPB, and other applicable regulations and reporting requirements
  • Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and allocation of resources.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director (or serve in this capacity if unfilled) to ensure high-quality, mission-aligned programming.
  • Maintain the station’s programming schedule, balancing music, news, and local content.
  • Encourage innovation and community participation in content development.
  • Lead membership drives, underwriting sales, and donor cultivation initiatives.
  • Identify, apply for, and manage grants supporting station operations and programming.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, businesses, and foundations.
  • Serve as the public representative of the station at events, meetings, and media engagements.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners, listeners, and civic organizations.
  • Promote the station’s role as a trusted source of information and culture in the region.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Engineer and/or contractors to ensure reliable broadcast and streaming services.
  • Ensure compliance with Emergency Alert System (EAS) requirements.
