About The Position

Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c). Our success is driven by our people. Job Summary: The Executive Director, Legal and Compliance Operations is a senior leader responsible for assisting in driving the strategic evolution and execution of Madrigal’s Compliance Program, with a core focus on Policies and Training, Operations and Strategic projects across the Legal and Compliance Department. This role partners closely with the Global Compliance Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Sr. Director Compliance Operations and senior leaders across Compliance, Legal, Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and IT to ensure a culture of integrity, transparency, and ethical decision-making. The Executive Director serves as a thought leader in shaping the governance, infrastructure, and operating model that sustains compliance as a strategic enabler of business performance. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in healthcare compliance and operations and a proactive approach to embedding best practices and innovative training methodologies across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical or biotech compliance, legal, or related functions.
  • Proven success in designing and implementing policy governance frameworks and compliance training programs.
  • Strategic leadership capability, strong organizational awareness, sound judgment, strong business acumen and ability to make decisions with the input of appropriate input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while maintaining focus on quality, ethics, and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Strong problem solving and risk analysis skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment and to handle multiple complex and confidential tasks.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or Master’s) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other members of the Compliance and Legal team to maintain and enhance the infrastructure for the business that supports a company culture of compliance and recognizes that compliance is a collective responsibility of all company employees.
  • Manage strategic oversight and governance of Compliance Policies and Procedures in addition to working cross-functionally with the business to ensure compliance efforts/training and other initiatives are pulled through.
  • Partner with other members of the Compliance and Legal team to identify policy/guideline needs, develop/enhance policies and guidance documents, and ensure optimal accessibility for the Business.
  • Lead the strategy, design, and delivery of engaging, risk-based compliance training programs tailored to functional audiences.
  • Assist with conducting annual compliance risk assessments, including evaluating results and identifying areas of improvement.
  • Provide guidance to the business and integrate compliance controls into the scope of existing business practices where applicable.
  • Develop, lead, and implement continuous improvement activities, including managing documentation and tracking compliance activities.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of various laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect the corporate-wide compliance program, including federal and state government price reporting laws, state and federal privacy laws, OIG and DOJ guidelines, PhRMA code and state marketing compliance laws.
  • Lead special projects: Manage high-impact compliance projects, initiatives, and cross-functional working groups as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer or Global Compliance Officer.
