Executive Director, Data & Analytics Platform

athenahealthBoston, MA
1d$190,000 - $322,000

About The Position

athenahealth is building an AI-first future for healthcare—and our data platform is foundational to making that future real. We are seeking an Executive Director to lead product strategy and execution for our Data & Analytics Platform, a critical capability that powers analytics, intelligence, and AI across the athenahealth ecosystem. This role owns the product vision and outcomes for how data is ingested, modeled, governed, and activated—supporting everything from real-time analytics and observability to embedded intelligence, customer insights, and commercial data products. Reporting to the VP of Product Management, Data & Ecosystem Platform, this leader operates at executive altitude with responsibility for platform strategy, product leadership, and cross-company impact.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading large-scale data or analytics platforms as a senior product executive.
  • Deep fluency in modern data platform concepts, including lakehouse architectures, streaming data, semantic modeling, and platform enablement.
  • Strong point of view on AI-first product strategy and the role data platforms play in accelerating intelligence at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate across infrastructure-adjacent platforms and user-facing products.
  • Track record of building and leading senior product teams with high standards for execution and impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, regulated industries, or complex enterprise environments is a strong plus—but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end product strategy for athenahealth’s Data & Analytics Platform, spanning data ingestion, pipelines, storage, analytics, and customer-facing reporting.
  • Define and evolve a modern data platform architecture that supports scale, reliability, trust, and regulatory-safe reuse in a healthcare environment.
  • Lead product strategy for enterprise data warehouse / lakehouse capabilities, including batch and streaming pipelines, large-scale data migrations, and imports.
  • Drive platform enablement for AI-first product development, including real-time data access, feature availability, feedback loops, and observability.
  • Establish and evolve semantic layers, metrics frameworks, and analytics platforms that enable consistent, trusted insight across products and customers.
  • Own the vision for customer-facing analytics and reporting experiences, ensuring they are actionable, intuitive, and embedded in workflows.
  • Enable real world evidence use cases through reusable, governed, high-quality de-identified data assets.
  • Set clear outcomes for platform adoption, product velocity, customer impact, and business value, not just technical delivery.
  • Build and lead high-performing product teams, developing senior talent and setting a strong culture of accountability and clarity.
  • Partner closely with Engineering leadership to align product strategy with architectural decisions and execution realities.
  • Act as a trusted peer to AI/ML leaders, shaping how data platforms accelerate copilots, agents, and embedded intelligence.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, and GTM leaders to ensure data and analytics capabilities are differentiated, consumable, and valuable to customers.
  • Operate effectively with executive stakeholders, influencing roadmap priorities, investment decisions, and long-term strategy.
  • Serve as a visible leader across athenahealth, translating complex platform concepts into clear, outcome-oriented narratives.

Benefits

  • Along with health and financial benefits, athenistas enjoy perks specific to each location, including commuter support, employee assistance programs, tuition assistance, employee resource groups, and collaborative workspaces — some offices even welcome dogs.
  • We also encourage a better work-life balance for athenistas with our flexibility.
  • While we know in-office collaboration is critical to our vision, we recognize that not all work needs to be done within an office environment, full-time.
  • With consistent communication and digital collaboration tools, athenahealth enables employees to find a balance that feels fulfilling and productive for each individual situation.
  • In addition to our traditional benefits and perks, we sponsor events throughout the year, including book clubs, external speakers, and hackathons.
  • We provide athenistas with a company culture based on learning, the support of an engaged team, and an inclusive environment where all employees are valued.
