About The Position

Solid Biosciences is a precision genetic medicine company focused on advancing a portfolio of gene therapy candidates targeting rare neuromuscular and cardiac diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne), Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), TNNT2-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, BAG3-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, and additional fatal, genetic cardiac diseases. We are seeking an Executive Director, Business Strategy to lead the identification, evaluation, and enabling of strategic partnerships and innovation initiatives to advance the company’s rare disease gene therapy pipeline. This role will be specifically focused on capsid technologies, promoter systems, and related enabling platforms that enhance tissue targeting, expression control, durability, and safety. This role will report to the SVP of Business Development & Strategy and will be based in Solid’s Corporate Headquarters located in Hood Park in Charlestown, MA.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant life sciences field.
  • 10+ years of experience in biotech or pharma across business development, strategy, or R&D.
  • Deep expertise in AAV gene therapy, capsids, promoters, and rare disease development.
  • Proven track record executing complex scientific partnerships.
  • Strong negotiation and cross-functional leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting rare disease gene therapy programs.
  • Platform build-out experience in capsids, promoters, or delivery technologies.
  • Familiarity with gene therapy IP strategy and academic tech transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a partnership strategy, in alignment with the SVP, Business Development & Strategy, for capsids, promoters, and related gene regulation technologies aligned with the company’s rare disease portfolio and long-term platform vision.
  • Identify external innovation opportunities across engineered and novel AAV capsids, tissue-specific and disease-optimized promoters, and gene expression control elements.
  • Build and maintain a robust external landscape view of emerging technologies, competitors, and potential partners.
  • Internally drive end-to-end partnership activities enabling opportunity sourcing, diligence, deal structuring, and negotiation for Solid’s Business Development team.
  • Partner closely with Business Development, Legal, Finance, IP, and R&D leadership to ensure deals are value-creating and executable.
  • Partner with Business Development team on alliance management transitions to ensure partnerships deliver against milestones.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to scientific leadership on capsid selection and promoter optimization.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into clear strategic recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Contribute to portfolio planning, platform roadmaps, and long-range strategy.
