About The Position

Executive Director – Adult Services (Eastern Massachusetts) Full-Time | Revere, MA Lead with Purpose. Empower Lives. Drive Excellence. Are you a senior leader experienced in managing complex human services systems? May Institute is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our Adult Services programs for individuals with I/DD in Eastern Massachusetts. This is a unique opportunity to oversee a large, distributed service system, and make a measurable difference in the lives of individuals with Intellectual/developmental disabilities. This is a senior leadership role for someone who can think systemically, make sound decisions with imperfect information, and lead through others. The Role: The Executive Director is accountable for the overall performance, quality, and sustainability of Adult Services in Eastern Massachusetts. This includes operational oversight, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and leadership of a multi-layered management team. Key responsibilities include: Providing system-level leadership across multiple programs and locations Making thoughtful decisions in complex situations and taking responsibility for outcomes Leading through directors and managers by setting clear expectations and supporting strong local leadership Overseeing budgets, payer relationships, and operational performance Maintaining regulatory compliance and addressing quality or risk issues early Partnering across departments and communicating effectively with families, funders, and stakeholders Leadership Expectations: Successful Executive Directors at May Institute: See how decisions in one area affect the broader system Remain calm and thoughtful when navigating competing priorities Focus on results, not just effort Build strong teamsProtect culture and trust through everyday actions Technology and Data Use: Executive Directors are expected to use data and technology as tools to support good work. This includes reviewing dashboards related to staffing, quality, compliance, and finances, and supporting effective adoption of required systems. This role does not require technical configuration skills, but does require modeling use, asking good questions, and holding leaders accountable for effective system use.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in human services, preferably within Massachusetts DDS-funded systems
  • Experience overseeing large, multi-site, 24-hour residential or community-based programs
  • Strong financial and operational judgment
  • Ability to lead through others in complex environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in human services, business, or related field preferred
