About The Position

As our next Executive Director of Adult Inpatient Operations & Emergency Services, Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), you will have an impactful role within our Patient Care Services division at our main campus in Hyde Park. The Executive Director reports directly to the CNO and is a strong voice of nursing for the organization. With a large span of control overseeing six directors and approximately 1500+ FTEs, you foster an environment built on engagement, collaboration, and innovation. This leader establishes and ensures adherence and execution of appropriate levels of quality care during day to day operations while maintaining strategic focus on future nursing programs. In this role, the Executive Director directs the inpatient staff of two adult inpatient hospitals which include all Nursing units responsible for care within Medicine, Surgical, Cardiac, Neurological multi-specialties, and adult Emergency Services. They also have oversight for strategic planning, administration, and fiscal management for Patient Logistics, Staffing Resource Office & Hospital Administrative Officers. Responsibilities include developing and introducing approved standards and guidelines for inpatient programs in these areas to align with the care model. Maintains working relationships with internal leaders/peers and external agencies. Ensures execution of priorities that optimize the managed care model including determining appropriate resource allocation across all adult inpatient nursing units. Acts as Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) with the responsibility to develop standards, practices, and culture specific to the UCMC adult inpatient nursing. Requirements

  • A Master degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited academic body is required.
  • National certification in a nursing specialty.
  • Must be certified through the state of Illinois as Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of clinical experience in the nursing field including responsibility for managing multiple, large patient care areas and prior management responsibility of multiple, large nursing units.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with various audiences across organizational levels are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Magnet designated organization is preferred.
  • Experience with clinical documentation (Epic) and clinical applications/systems (API, Teletracking, Get Well Network) preferred.
  • Hands on people and program management and Lean methodology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of Patient Logistics and the nursing staff/programs across all adult inpatient areas & the adult Emergency Department to ensure maintenance of standards of patient care aligned to the care model. Monitors patient/clinical outcomes and creates a plan of action to address needs or changes.
  • Establishes and ensures adherence and execution of appropriate levels of care and ensures quality of nursing care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to Nursing/Patient Logistics/Emergency Services and makes recommendations to further align standards to the care model.
  • Recommends revisions to policies related to the care model. Interprets policies and objectives to staff, physicians and others in the medical community to ensure understanding of methods and their application across all adult inpatient areas and the Emergency Department.
  • Responsible for leading, developing and managing the performance of all direct reports. Promote teamwork, collaboration and integration across Adult Inpatient and other areas. Selects, orients, trains, develops, and assigns work to staff. Develops standards of performance; evaluates performance and conducts any necessary developmental actions for all direct reports.
  • Develop methods to communicate applicable care model approaches and protocols. Ensures that communication aligns all areas under Adult Inpatient, Patient Logistics and Adult Emergency Services. Educates leaders and employees on the delivery of patient care.
  • Maintains strategic focus on building strong relationships with key leadership and peers in the medical community to ensure the effective implementation of all programs.
  • Monitors compliance with state and other governing bodies, JCAHO and any other regulatory agencies. Oversee the preparation of information needed to assure compliance.
