About The Position

The Executive Director of Accounting serves as the company’s controller and senior leader of the accounting function. Incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of corporate accounting, including transactional accounting and non-standard technical accounting, internal control infrastructure, accounts payable, payroll, banking, equity administration, tax compliance, and external audit management. The incumbent will also play a key role in preparing the company for a potential IPO, as well as leading SEC financial reporting following an IPO. Additionally, the Executive Director, Accounting, will support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, internal financial reporting, and variance analyses. This position requires a leader with a breadth of operational and technical accounting experience and a proven track record of process creation and implementation to help shape the future of a high-growth, dynamic organization. The role requires working both individually and in a team environment, interacting with and supporting cross-functional groups, including research, clinical development, product development and manufacturing, regulatory, quality, and general and administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting data and systems.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, including review of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and analytical reviews.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial audits including interacting with external auditors to ensure timely and successful completion of quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Manage the company’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and internal control certification requirements
  • Lead the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and annual SEC filings.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Audit Committee, including planning Audit Committee meetings, preparing meeting agendas, and leading/facilitating meetings together with the Audit Committee Chair.
  • Manage, mentor and facilitate the career development of direct reports, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to excellence.
  • Scale the accounting organization to efficiently support the company’s growth, including potentially hiring and training new employees, utilizing consultants, and implementing new systems and processes.
  • Implement, upgrade, and maintain an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with US GAAP, tax regulations, and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Manage the company’s equity administration processes.
  • Oversee an outsourced management of tax compliance, ensuring timely and accurate filings and tax provision disclosures.
  • Support the budgeting process and provide monthly reporting of financial performance and variance analyses to senior management.
