About The Position

As a career-level Zone Engineer within General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering, you will work independently with occasional guidance from your supervisor. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing processes, designing and integrating tooling and equipment, and driving operational readiness within your assigned zone. This role requires creativity, initiative, and sound judgment in a fast-paced, plant-based engineering environment focused on launching and sustaining high-quality vehicle production.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in manufacturing
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field; degrees in project management or business considered with relevant manufacturing experience
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Willingness to travel extensively during program launches
  • Demonstrated initiative and collaboration across teams
  • Solid project management capabilities

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in the automotive industry
  • Experience working within General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead manufacturing process development, equipment/tooling design, integration, and installation to steady-state production.
  • Manage new program launches, model changes, and current production activities within your assigned zone.
  • Define and implement changes to tooling, workstation setups, facilities, and automation to meet launch timelines.
  • Ensure efficient material flow and conveyance strategies for future operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize tooling and processes across departments.
  • Develop tooling specifications (SORs), manage procurement, and oversee supplier design, build, and validation.
  • Support plant build events, address launch issues, and facilitate virtual builds and integration planning.
  • Maintain and update required tooling documentation, Project Status Zone Boards, and Process Manufacturing Requirements (MR's).
  • Conduct PFMEA activities, support safety reviews, and ensure maintenance training for critical equipment.
  • Participate in program financial reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
