The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate maintains a high quality standard of housekeeping by performing cleaning functions in assigned areas, following assigned schedules and specific methods to provide patients, visitors, and staff with a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment. EVS Associates aid in prevention of cross contamination, controlling bacteria, odor, and sustaining acceptable aseptic conditions. They may assist with moves, recycling, delivery of supplies, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste. The role involves interacting with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values, and maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment by following departmental policies and procedures. Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations, including environmental contaminants like batteries, thermometers (mercury), and needles, is required. The associate must keep biohazard food and loading areas safe and clean of debris, and maintain equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, other equipment, and supply closets to ensure a professional appearance for the hospital. Compliance with established personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood, infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances is mandatory, as is following hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene. The role also includes completing and maintaining all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures, observing safety precautions when pushing equipment, and reporting faulty mechanical, structural or electrical problems to create a safe environment. Utilizing wet floor signs to prevent slippage is also a key safety practice. The associate is expected to converse with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend courtesy, demonstrating high standards of conduct. Additionally, they assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups upon request, respond to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion, and perform other assigned duties.
