About The Position

The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate is responsible for maintaining high quality housekeeping standards by performing cleaning functions in assigned areas. This role follows specific schedules and methods to ensure a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment for patients, visitors, and staff. EVS Associates play a crucial role in preventing cross-contamination, controlling bacteria and odor, and sustaining acceptable aseptic conditions. They may also be required to assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies, as well as recycling, delivery of supplies, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste. The associate is expected to interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

Requirements

  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Follow hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene.
  • Observe safety precautions when pushing equipment.
  • Report faulty mechanical, structural or electrical problem in accordance with safety policy.
  • Utilize wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients, employees, and visitors in accordance with safety policy.
  • Perform duties in compliance with policy and safety practices.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations.
  • Handle the disposal of environmental Contaminants such as: batteries, thermometers (mercury), and needles.
  • Keep biohazard food and loading area safe and clean of debris.
  • Maintains equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, other equipment, and supply closets to give the hospital a professional appearance.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Follows hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene.
  • Completes and maintains all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Observes safety precautions when pushing equipment.
  • Reports faulty mechanical, structural or electrical problem in accordance with safety policy creating an environment of safety.
  • Utilizes wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients, employees, and visitors in accordance with safety policy.
  • Performs duties in compliance with policy and safety practices.
  • Converses with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend every possible courtesy.
  • Demonstrates high standards of conduct in the work environment to make Jefferson the choice for patients and employees.
  • Assist with the moving of furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups by request of the supervisor and/or staff.
  • Respond to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
