About The Position

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Donor and Stewardship Events, the Events Specialist performs specialized duties to enhance donor relations through special events, stewardship and communication by overseeing the planning, management and execution of development events for University Development and Alumni Engagement and campus partners. The role of the University Development and Alumni Engagement (UDAE) Division is to foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance philanthropic support for Cal Poly. University Development and Alumni Engagement establishes and implements an integrated advancement program that includes coordinated fundraising, donor relations, gift processing, trust and endowment management, training and systems support for the donor database, and Cal Poly Foundation support and administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with campus leadership and college development teams to plan and coordinate development and donor-related special events that enhance relationships between alumni, parents, and friends of the university, including, but not limited to dedications, groundbreakings, memorials, scholarship awards, fundraising campaign events, and other development events.
  • Develop, plan, and implement development events hosted or attended by the President, the Vice President for UDAE and/or key leadership.
  • Coordinate and distribute confidential briefing packets to the President and key university leadership for each event outlining objectives and overview, bios on attendees of note, talking points, and additional pertinent information important to the success of overall event strategy.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate development events programs, including, but not limited to: budget oversight, communications, printed materials, content, programs, agendas, decoration, vendors, speakers, stewardship activities, technical needs, travel, transportation, catering, schedules and staff support.
  • Work collaboratively with Donor Relations staff to help coordinate donor stewardship and recognition plans and strategies for select donors and volunteers.
