About The Position

The Events Manager (1-year term) supports the strategic priorities of the Canada team by developing and implementing plans for trips and special events that engage key audiences — including current and prospective donors, partners, government and corporates. A key member of the Philanthropy Team, this position is responsible for project management including logistics, procurement, outreach and follow-up to ensure successful execution of trips and events of varying scope and complexity. They coordinate plans and schedules across functional teams to develop event concepts and content that aligns with the strategic priorities of the Canada team. The Events Manager must have knowledge of the systems and resources utilized for event planning, donor relationship management and project management. They will interpret guidelines and analyze information to achieve results, improve workflow and solve problems. They will provide recommendations and targeted trainings related to trips and events as necessary. They will develop documentation, adapt processes, and participate in the enhancement of resources and tools used by the team to produce events. In some instances, they will serve as an advisor on events outside their primary focus area that are managed by other staff. They may coordinate and manage budgets for the events and trips they produce. They must also exercise knowledge of our work and fundraising principles to develop concepts that elevate our priorities in ways that are relevant and appealing to our key audiences. This position works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: staff, donors, board members, vendors, and partners. Are you looking for work you can believe in? Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience managing and executing events.
  • Strong organization, planning, and project management skills.
  • Experience leading a strategic program or functional area to achieve results.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices in events management.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to manage and implement complex processes.
  • Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative role.
  • Knowledge of current and evolving trends in events, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous peoples’ rights and history in Canada.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Canada trips and events program, prioritizing tasks in the absence of specific instructions and exercising independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Coordinate events with several variables, set realistic deadlines and manage timelines.
  • Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information, including donor data.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
  • May participate in complex negotiations related to trips and events.
  • Travel occasionally and work flexible hours as needed.
