About The Position

Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel has masterfully transformed a Renaissance Revival landmark building, part of Curlett & Beelman’s iconic architectural stamp on Los Angeles. Designer Kelly Wearstler seamlessly elevates 147 rooms and suites with compelling creative design, vintage California influences, and a trove of original works by L.A. artists. Discover a trio of inviting dining destinations in one historic location, alongside a refined split-level rooftop pool deck with uninterrupted views of the city lights; plus 12,000 square feet of distinctive event spaces, including two suites that integrate the building’s sporting-club past by repurposing the vintage basketball court and indoor pool into inspired, unexpected design elements. Position Overview The Event Sales & Services Manager will be responsible for generating revenues within the markets assigned for restaurant and event space catering sales. This key role will partner with hotel, restaurant and culinary management to create compelling menus, coordinate timing of events and relay all necessary information and/or changes to maximize event profitability, ensuring that our clients have a unique, second-to-none event. The Event Sales & Services Manager is also responsible for the daily operations of the Event and Conference Services department.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of hospitality experience in Sales/Events Operations
  • Thorough knowledge of sales techniques including excellent selling and negotiating skills with strong market and account knowledge
  • Creative and innovative; proactive and customer-oriented
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Excellent knowledge of computers, specifically Opera, Delphi, Word, Excel and event management software and customer management platform
  • Must have a flexible work schedule

Responsibilities

  • Build and foster relationships with clients by creating and coordinating meetings and events
  • Generate detailed group resumes and communicate with Hotel Department Heads
  • Optimize room rental charges and event upsell opportunities
  • Assist with the monthly forecasting and the annual budget process
  • Handle special projects as requested by the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Account prospecting, solicitation, and development via telephone, personal contact, outside calls, correspondence, email and other means of communication
  • Conduct event and meeting space site inspections, entertain both in house and off property, and maintain relationships thorough follow-up methods
  • Proactively establish preferred partnerships with outside vendors to create benchmark standards, consistency in service and competitive pricing
  • Prepare and present proposals and contracts both written and verbal in a prompt, accurate, profitable, pleasant and professional manner
  • Ensure billing accuracy and conducts bill reviews with the clients prior to processing the final bill
  • Manage group room blocks and meeting space for groups and events
  • Lead formal pre-event and post-event meetings for small to average-sized assigned groups
  • Develop and work from a quarterly action plan that encompasses Account Management, New Business Development and departmental profitability
