About The Position
The Estimator will work with Project and Division management to assist in the development of technical scope of work and independently develop cost estimates and resource requirements for overhead distribution, transmission, and substation electrical utility construction projects.
Requirements
- Knowledge of design, estimating, construction, finance, and management
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, scaling, legends, etc.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to anticipate and meet internal customer needs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and activities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficient in industry software such as InEight, B2W or Heavy Bid.
- Effective communication (oral, written, presentation, listening)
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks
- Ability to travel as needed
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR)
- Minimum of 5 Years’ Experience in Project Estimating, Construction Management, or similar construction field
- Thorough knowledge of high voltage construction (Overhead, Underground, Transmission, Substation and Distribution) and estimating experience
Responsibilities
- Assist with the request for proposal (RFP) preparation and evaluations, project specifications, and pricing schedules
- Assist with the preparation of pre-approval project estimates based on limited information and general scopes of work, often lacking specific precedence
- Assist project team in scoping of projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements
- Assist with the development of detailed post-approval project estimates based on company standards and site-specific facility drawings
- Perform material take-offs and cost analyses to support estimates
- Assist with the development of pricing schedules and weighting criteria for proposal evaluations
- Provide expert judgment of costs to support competitive bid and negotiated contracts
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division or project management
