About The Position

Responsible for providing competitive proposals on structural steel and miscellaneous metal bids while ensuring an acceptable margin of revenue for Ideal. This role involves performing duties with limited supervision, estimating new projects, preparing and managing change orders on existing contracts, and reviewing and interpreting bid instructions and project specifications. The Estimator will also prepare material and labor “take offs,” estimate all necessary labor, materials, buyout items, and freight to prepare proposals, and work directly with customers to understand project size, scope, timelines, and deadlines. Additionally, the position requires developing comprehensive scope lists for each job bid and the ability to perform peer-to-peer reviews.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in estimating structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experienced with construction drawings, project specifications, technical documents, proposals, and estimates.
  • Strong mathematic skills.
  • Knowledgeable in estimating software packages or comparable software (TEKLA, WINEST, VISTA).
  • Intermediate computer knowledge including spreadsheet management, word processing, and keyboarding skills.
  • High school education, GED, or its equivalent with specialized classes in construction-related fields.
  • A college degree in estimating or equivocal field, or similar time spent in the job role or relevant experience if no college degree.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
