About The Position

The Estimator is responsible for estimating assigned “Electric Power” projects (e.g. T&D Powerlines and Substations) and the upkeep of estimating systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years technical education in the engineering field, construction management coursework or completion of apprenticeship in a respective discipline. Prior estimating experience in the plumbing / piping industry preferred.
  • Analytical and problem solving, strong interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • General computer skills required with a good working knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook and a good understanding of CAD/BIM drawings.
  • Comfortable with a wide range of project budgets and estimating 120 - 200 estimates per year based on size.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior estimating experience in the plumbing / piping industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a bid schedule in consultation with Department Head. Responsible for procuring and returning plans for projects to estimate.
  • Prepares project estimates in a timely manner by engaging in detailed and accurate plan take-off, and solicitation of appropriate material, equipment and sub-contractor pricing.
  • Updates material pricing and labor rates on regular intervals to reflect recent changes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the estimating system, including software.
  • Prices change orders on large projects.
  • Evaluates bid results to track pricing levels. Upkeeps project bid database for future reference.
  • Evaluates completed job costs against estimated budgeted costs to aid in future estimating.
  • Develops “rules of thumb” estimating techniques and criteria for budget estimating.
  • Other general tasks at the request of the department head.
  • Attendance at departmental meetings and social functions is required.
