About The Position
Matrix Basement Finishing is a leading basement remodeling company serving homeowners across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. We specialize in delivering high-quality, customized basement solutions with a focus on efficiency, craftsmanship, and an exceptional customer experience. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to support project costing accuracy and assist with material coordination. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate project cost estimates to support sales and production while assisting with material coordination and purchasing processes. This is a mid-level role focused primarily on estimating and cost analysis, with secondary responsibility supporting purchasing and vendor coordination. This position plays a key role in ensuring project profitability, cost accuracy, and smooth production execution.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience in construction estimating or related field
- Residential remodeling or construction experience preferred
- Strong understanding of construction materials and cost structures
- Proficiency in Excel (required); BuilderTrend or similar systems (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for basement remodeling projects
- Review scopes, plans, and specifications to determine labor and material costs
- Collaborate with Sales, Design, and Production teams to ensure alignment on scope and pricing
- Maintain and update pricing databases and cost libraries
- Analyze job costs and identify opportunities for improved margins and efficiencies
- Review completed projects to track cost variance and refine estimating accuracy
- Assist with material ordering and coordination for active projects
- Communicate with vendors to confirm pricing and availability
- Support issuance and tracking of purchase orders
- Coordinate delivery schedules with production teams
- Help resolve material discrepancies or shortages as needed
- Work closely with production teams to ensure estimates align with field execution
- Support process improvements across estimating and material coordination workflows
- Maintain accurate records of project costs, pricing updates, and vendor communication
