Estimator at Shiel Sexton The Estimator position reports directly to the Project Executive of our Special Projects division. Primary responsibilities include establishing rapport and open communication with subcontractors, potential clients and design consultants, and leading the estimating efforts from project conception through final pricing, using a variety of contracting methods. Ability to meet a high standard of productivity by adapting to changing circumstances. Review and understand a given set of construction documents in order to perform detailed and quantify takeoffs. Performing detailed quantity takeoffs and understanding unit pricing, in order to create milestone level budgets. Working in small teams of estimators and project managers to collaborate on bid/budget strategies. Developing professional relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. Analyze and understand subcontractor proposals on bid day in high stress atmosphere. Managing the budgeting/bidding process on individual projects, with specific focus on projects ranging from small to medium size. Working with design consultants and subcontractors in a professional and collaborative manner to achieve the owner’s desired outcomes. Reviewing and understanding the plans and specifications, with an ability to identify errors and ask clear and concise questions for clarification. Creating and communicating accurate scopes of work to subcontractors. Validating subcontractor proposals quickly and accurately. Preparing deliverables for clients, including scope of work write-ups, value engineering ideas, quantity takeoffs, assumptions, and clarifications. Other duties as assigned.
