About The Position

EPI Power is hiring an Estimator I or Estimator II to join our team. The Estimator will provide support to the team by completing quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, working within the estimating system, compiling cost history, and preparing systems comparisons. This is a great opportunity to join a growing company and make a positive impact! This role will be based out of our corporate office in Des Moines, IA. However, the first 3-5 months of onboarding will take place at our office in Gig Harbor, WA. EPI Power, LLC ("EPI") is a licensed electrical contractor and subsidiary of The Weitz Company that specializes in data centers. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in an estimating role
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Motivated to provide high-quality, accurate work
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly as the industry grows and changes
  • Skilled with prioritization and multi-tasking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical with the ability to be proactive and solve problems
  • Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
  • Currently located in the Des Moines, IA area or willing to relocate permanently
  • Ability to onboard in Gig Harbor, WA for first 3-5 months of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Construction industry experience is a plus
  • An industry related bachelor's degree is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Read and develop an understanding of all technical plans, specifications, and related documents
  • Develop an understanding of the estimating software system and utilize company standards to produce reliable and well-documented quantity surveys in a timely manner
  • Assist in conducting organized sub and vendor solicitation while accurately communicating the required scope of work
  • Ensure complete trade coverage is obtained and advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls
  • Develop an understanding of the process for maintaining a record set of estimating documents including all addenda, changes, and clarifications
  • Understand the preparation of bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets (Bid Tickets), including any custom client cost breakdown/schedule of values
  • Assist in reviewing trade proposals and scope letters as received to identify gaps in the scope of work
  • Develop a solid understanding of how subcontractor bonding insurance, insurance, performance bonds, permits, taxes, LIT, labor burdens, escalation, and contingency may impact project costs
  • Assist in preparing the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system
  • Assist in preparing the appropriate documentation for the closure document, such as the area analysis report, parameter report, parameter comparison report, value analysis report, qualifications/clarifications, and documents list
  • Assist in the analysis of cost alternatives, send requests for cost analysis input to subcontractors as applicable, and provide quantity review as directed.
