Primary Role: The Estimation Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for both producing accurate and timely estimates for sales opportunities and managing the day-to-day operations of the estimation team. This role serves as a working manager, actively participating in technical estimation, pre-sales engineering support, and post-sales engineering assistance, while also overseeing team performance, resource allocation, and process improvement. The Estimation Manager is expected to be a subject matter expert in SWC’s systems and offerings, mentor team members, and drive the department’s continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • The Engineer shall possess a two-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), NICET II certification or 5 years related field experience.
  • Must possess an understanding of electronic systems, such as fire alarm, security, CCTV, nurse call, emergency communication, paging, infant protection, real time locator, intercom.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of building codes.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills required.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency.
  • Reliable transportation required (vehicle allowance/reimbursement program).
  • Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized.
  • Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.
  • Valid and current drivers license.
  • Employees are required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.
  • Some light lifting of objects is required.
  • Reaching, grasping and carrying activities are also required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
  • All requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by Example: Directly participate in the development of accurate bills of materials and labor estimates for complex projects.
  • Workflow Management: Assign tasks, balance workloads, and monitor project timelines to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Site Surveys: Personally conduct or oversee customer job site surveys to gather technical and environmental data.
  • Pre-Sales Engineering: Collaborate with sales to develop comprehensive project scopes, technical proposals, and client presentations.
  • Provide sales, technical staff, and other internal and external customers with technical support on both a pre and post-sales basis.
  • Documentation: Partner with project engineers to develop system drawings and project documentation; review and approve technical deliverables.
  • Mentorship & Training: Train, coach, and develop team members in estimation methodologies, best practices, and new technologies.
  • KPI Monitoring & Reporting: Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the estimation team, using data-driven insights to track team productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Relationship Management: Build strong working relationships with clients, vendors and internal teams.
  • Professional Development: Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to SWC’s offerings; encourage ongoing learning within the team.
  • Quality & Safety: Ensure all work complies with company policies, health and safety standards and industry regulations.
  • Performance Management: Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and individual feedback sessions.
  • Client-Facing Expertise: Serve as a technical resource to clients, sales and internal stakeholders, articulating the value and application of systems offered.
