About The Position

The Estimating Administrative Assistant is a full-time role based in San Marcos, TX, responsible for creating material lists and takeoffs from blueprints for both residential and commercial projects. This position supports local and regionally assigned store locations by generating accurate material lists based on standard building codes and ensuring timely submission. The assistant provides quality customer service through interactions with retail store employees, offering product information, and assisting with blueprint modifications. They may also consult directly with customers regarding blueprints and material lists. The role requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and active participation in store or regional meetings, continuing education, and company training sessions.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Must be able to perform and comprehend basic business and financial calculations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to utilize strong multi-tasking, organizational, prioritization, and follow-up skills necessary for managing multiple projects at one time in a professional manner and under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to utilize company point-of-sale system (MAC21), Microsoft Word & Excel, estimating software (PreBuilt ML) and other 3rd party software applications at an intermediate level.
  • Advanced computer and software skills required; this role relies heavily on digital estimating tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting detailed blueprints and structural designs, including calculating necessary information for bid and quote processes.
  • Strong understanding of residential building methods (foundations, framing, roofing, finishes) and how they are built and/or installed.
  • Able to work efficiently in a high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management.
  • Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other hours per day or hours per week as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
  • May require occasional travel with overnight stays.
  • Must meet driver’s license and driver eligibility requirements of the Company.
  • Must have current auto liability insurance.
  • Must be able to use company or personal vehicle to visit customers, job sites and purchasing offices of company accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints of prospective and current customers of McCoy’s, for both residential and commercial projects.
  • Generates materials lists for individual projects based on standard, local building codes and submits materials lists to the store(s) in a timely manner.
  • Ensures quality customer service through personal and/or phone interaction with retail store employees.
  • May assist retail store employees with product information and answering questions as necessary, including product usage and application, and/or blueprint changes or edits.
  • May consult customers concerning questions or concerns on blueprints and materials lists.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures while carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Attends and participates in store or regional meetings, continuing education, and/or company/department training sessions as required.
