About The Position

Stratford Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutor to provide individualized and small-group language instruction to multilingual learners in grades K-12. The ESOL Tutor will support students' English language development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while fostering academic engagement and confidence in an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (education or related field preferred)
  • Experience working with English learners or in a multilingual classroom setting is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally sustaining practices

Nice To Haves

  • TESOL certification or coursework in applied linguistics, bilingual education, or related field
  • Familiarity with CELP Standards, SIOP Model, or dual language education frameworks
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages represented in the district)

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted English language instruction aligned with CELP (Connecticut English Language Proficiency) Standards.
  • Support multilingual learners in accessing grade-level content across subject areas.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective scaffolding and sheltered instruction strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and document instructional goals and outcomes.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
  • Encourage students' social-emotional growth, cultural identity, and participation in the school community.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities related to ESOL instruction, translanguaging pedagogy, and culturally responsive practices.
