About The Position

The ESL Compliance and Instructional Specialist will oversee the Language instruction Education Program for ELs and ensure compliance to local, state and federal policies by working closely with CCPS administrators and teachers. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: work with the ESL Program Administrative Assistant to ensure Title III compliance requirements are met. Duties include but are not limited to: SOL Accommodations for ELs Opt-out Formerly EL (FEL) monitoring Title I and III Parent Notification requirements Screening, identification and placement of ELs work closely with the Division Director of Testing to meet all state and federal requirement for WIDA ACCESS for ELs testing oversee the Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP) for ELs collaborate with division curriculum specialists, school staff and ESL teachers to implement WIDA English Language Development standards. oversee embedded coaching and collaborative planning with content area teachers to develop differentiated lessons that incorporate effective teaching strategies for ELs; research and share scientifically based strategies/materials for use in classrooms supporting ELs; provide professional development to ESL staff; support the facilitation of LEP Committee meetings for accommodation/modification assignment at all schools; support ESL staff with the development of appropriate learning goals for all ELs, based on current data and best practice; attend appropriate state and regional meetings in the interest of improving instructional practices for the division; compile state reports as required; oversee technology platforms associated with EL; collaborate on the Director of ESL on authoring the Title III grant and maintaining compliance to grant requirements; collaborate with Career Technical Education (CTE) to develop modules to support ELs in those programs; support Title III, IY Adult Literacy classes for families of CCPS ELs Other duties as assigned by the Director of ESL& FRC

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in School Administration or Curriculum and Instruction
  • Virginia License in ESL
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Be willing to work with parents of English Language Learners (ELs)
  • Experience in developing parent involvement at the school level
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience
  • Knowledge of current ESL trends and methodologies
  • Evidence of teacher leadership
  • Experience teaching in a collaborative model
  • Ability to implement organization and documentation of data and educational resources
  • Ability to maintain good working relationship with all employees and the public
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County Public Schools
  • Ability to create and support an environment of literacy conducive to effective learning for all children
