About The Position

The ESE Unique Aide – Non-Instructional provides direct support to exceptional students with significant physical, medical, and behavioral needs. Under the supervision of instructional staff, the aide assists students in activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, feeding, and use of adaptive equipment. This role also involves implementing behavioral support strategies and ensuring student safety throughout the school day. The aide plays a critical role in helping students access their educational environment with dignity, respect, and care.

Requirements

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
One year experience working with children OR successful completion of the forty-five (45) hour child care certification training program available through BCC or NSU.
The ability to interact and communicate effectively with children.
Computer skills as required for the position.

Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist ESE students with academic tasks, classroom activities, and behavioral interventions as outlined in their IEPs.
Provide one-on-one or small group support tailored to each student’s unique learning and physical needs.
Help with personal care tasks such as mobility assistance, feeding, toileting, and hygiene, when necessary.
Monitor and report on student progress, behaviors, and needs to the ESE teacher or supervisor.
Implement behavioral support plans and crisis intervention techniques when required.
Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and families.
Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Assist in adapting instructional materials and setting up assistive technology devices.
Attend training sessions and team meetings to stay updated on best practices and legal requirements.
Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and procedures.
