Diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain motorized and mechanical equipment related to construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive equipment of all types and in varied locations. This role involves diagnosing vehicle, equipment or asset failures using electronic testing equipment, service and equipment repair manuals and on-line resources, and recommending outsourcing for major repairs when needed. The technician will prepare equipment for emergency operations and make necessary repairs to reduce downtime, including on-the-road repairs. Responsibilities also include preparing, processing, and maintaining required maintenance and repair documentation, generating, completing and closing-out work orders in the computer system, performing time and leave entry, preparing parts requests, and completing paperwork for warranty inspections and repairs. The position requires performing repairs and overhauls to all types of automobiles, equipment and tools, covering engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical and computer systems, fuel injection systems, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic components and air brakes. Preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment or assets according to schedule and guidelines is also a key function, with repairs made as needed or outsourcing recommended. The technician will perform safety inspections under the guidelines of the Virginia State Police Inspection program for vehicles and equipment, and design, fabricate, modify, and weld components to repair, rebuild, or replace parts.
