About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising technicians engaged in day to day automotive maintenance operations at the Weld Shop and to ensure efficient and timely preventative maintenance support for medium, heavy duty, off-road and/or light duty equipment. This position requires flexibility with work hours and days/nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate emergency repair work and varied schedules. Requirements

  • Knowledge of: • Leadership/supervisory principles in an automotive maintenance environment. • Evaluating subordinates job performance. • Automotive repair of heavy and light class, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, mechanical and on-board systems. Types of equipment needed to maintain/repair heavy/light class vehicles. • Automotive scheduled maintenance programs, work order processing, warranty repair procedures, material deficiency reporting, tire failure reports and procurement policies and procedures. • Budgeting process and methods/procedures for identifying/obtaining needed resources. • Automotive/heavy construction equipment operating procedures. • Automotive shop safety principles and practices; maintenance management principles, scheduled PM and record keeping.
  • Skill in/with: • Effective communications both written and oral. • Estimating time parameters/cost of preventative maintenance/repair work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy equipment. • Projecting parts, supplies, and staffing needs based shop work-loads and anticipated organization activities/program changes. • Understanding manufacturer's service/repair manuals; and, organizing/supervising automotive/heavy equipment service/repair shop.
  • Ability to: • Use Google Workspace, Fleet applications and other computer software as needed in the performance of assigned duties. • Organize an automotive service and repair shop to maximize efficiency and productivity. • Triage and prioritize shop work-loads and work orders. • Use appropriate automotive diagnostic tools/equipment to ensure accurate/timely automotive repairs/services. • Prepare clear/concise records, reports and other written materials. • Maintains effective relationships with internal and external customers. • Read and comprehend automotive manuals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, manufacturers service bulletin recalls. • Lift up to 50lbs; push/pull up to 90lbs, pass a medical/physical exam.
  • Journeyman-level experience must have been acquired in 1995 or after: Five-years of journeyman-level experience as a light/heavy class automotive technician/welder and three years of experience as a Shop Lead Technician or Shop Foreman; or five-years of supervisory experience in the automotive maintenance field.
  • EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
  • This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and guidance to shop technicians on daily workloads (scheduled/unscheduled) and maintenance priorities. Train technicians on the proper use of automotive diagnostic tools/equipment.
  • Ensure vehicle/equipment assets are serviced/repaired in accordance with Federal, State, ADOT, Interagency Service Agreements and EQS Policy/Procedures. Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM's) and repairs and schedules vehicles for service and repair.
  • Initiate automotive service/repair estimates and monitor approval actions. Use automated fleet management programs to review shop automotive work orders, maintenance reports and other related data.
