About The Position

This position involves operating various heavy equipment, including but not limited to front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, dozers with GPS, and backhoes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to keep accurate time and material records.
  • Strong safety consciousness and understanding of equipment safety.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints/plans and construct accordingly.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to set up and use site levels, grade lasers, pipe lasers, and straight-line levels effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Availability to work on weekends, public holidays, and at night as required.
  • Willingness to travel to various job locations.
  • Ability to work long hours in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, stoop, bend, and crouch as necessary.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying 50-90 pounds frequently and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities on the construction site.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions.
  • Sufficient skill and visual acuity under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in operating GPS machine-controlled systems on heavy equipment (where applicable).
  • Comply with and be committed to all Tucker Paving rules, policies, and OSHA regulations, including trench safety, confined space programs, and Silica Dust Safety.
  • Model safe work practices, including wearing all personal protective and safety equipment.
  • Report any safety violations by crew members or subcontractors to the Foreman or safety team.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety rules and regulations and employ correct methods on the job site.
  • Responsible for correcting any unsafe conditions on the job site, assisting with site inspections, and following through with abatement of any hazards.
  • Collaborate with the Foreman to plan work schedules, equipment, material, and personnel requirements.
  • Attend all assigned training classes and seminars.
  • Ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with the job site.
  • Train new crew members and promote teamwork among the field crew.
  • Be prepared to respond appropriately if an OSHA inspector visits the site or in the event of a crisis on site.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor that enhances the reputation of Tucker Paving, Inc.
  • Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to front-end loaders, excavators, rubber tire backhoes, skid steers, dozers, off-road end dumps, vibratory rollers, graders, water trucks, and broom tractors.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, including checking fluids, greasing, and keeping equipment clean.
  • Observe equipment operation to detect malfunctions and inspect and complete daily equipment reports, submitting them to the Foreman.
  • Move levers, shift gears, depress pedals, and maneuver the steering wheel to operate equipment.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
