About The Position

Equipment Operator – District Seven/Director of Trans Operations/District Maintenance/ Brooksville Operations Center This position will be responsible for the oversight and management of our maintenance crews working on the roadways. Requirements

  • Knowledge of MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS.
  • Knowledge of STANDARD SAFETY RULES AND PROCEDURES.
  • Skills in OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS.
  • Skills in OPERATING AND PERFORMING MINOR MAINTENANCE ON SMALL/MEDIUM EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES.
  • Ability to OPERATE A VARIETY OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT.
  • Ability to READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB-RELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS.
  • Ability to MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES.
  • Ability to COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS.
  • Ability to DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS.
  • Ability to LIFT, CARRY, AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS.
  • Ability to STOOP, CLIMB, SQUAT, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS.
  • Ability to WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC.

  • Ability to STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
  • Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on-call” (24-hour duty) when necessary.
  • While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of Commercial Driver's License (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
  • A valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
  • Obtains certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintains.
  • The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
  • Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
  • Possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
  • This position requires a valid Class (B) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, tractor trailer, drainage vacuum truck, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance; Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license, operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
  • Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
