About The Position

An Equipment Loader, Machine Operator (Forklift, etc.), and/or Material Handler, is responsible for operating and controlling a wide variety of equipment vehicles/heavy machinery that are typically found at a material recovery facility including forklift, skid steer, and loader to move raw materials around a work site.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent education/experience.
  • Must have/maintain a valid driver’s License including reliable transportation.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to add/subtract/divide and retain information.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in heavy equipment operation
  • Must have a good understanding of earthmoving techniques.
  • Must be knowledgeable with routine maintenance on assigned equipment, DEI inspections, lubing and communication with maintenance.
  • Must be capable of performing in a closed space environment, work safely and meet productively.
  • Must have good written and oral English communications skills.
  • Must be able to observe all safety (to include wearing required personal safety equipment), security, and health requirements for warehouse, and outside environment.
  • Ability to pass a Functional Capacity Exam.
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) associated with working in this type of environment.
  • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
  • Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.

  • Heavy Equipment certificate preferred.
  • Recycling experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and technically proficient operation of heavy equipment including Front End Loaders, Telehandlers, Skid Steers with Grapples, Sit Down diesel Forklifts with clamps/forks, Scissor Lifts and Operation of commercial Two Ram Bailer equipment.
  • Work under general supervision
  • Ability to work various hours and flexible shifts when needed.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Helps maintain cleanliness of facility and work areas.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to operate Komatsu / JCB loader and telehandler.
  • Proficient operation of New Holland Skid Steer with Grapple attachment.
  • Ability to operate a manual roll off truck.
  • Sampling/Grading of Inbound material & QC Outbound commodities
  • Loading residue outthrow materials
  • Ability to load recycling commodities for outbound customers.
  • Willingness to work with/in other departments or areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management such as traffic control, janitorial duties of trailers and offices, garbage disposal and overall outside maintenance cleanup.
  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Cell phone usage is prohibited during working hours except for breaks and lunch times. This includes talking, texting, email, voicemail, social media sites etc.
