About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Lead Journey 3 in KOTZEBUE to help us Keep Alaska Moving! What You Will Be Doing: Maintain airports, highways, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in safe, operable condition, complying with FHWA, FAA, TSA, and State regulations. Operate heavy equipment for airport and highway tasks, including snow and ice control, blading, pavement repair, sweeping, lighting, signage, and fencing. Perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties, including training, certification, equipment maintenance, and emergency response support. Conduct runway inspections, friction measurements, wildlife management, and issue NOTAMs to ensure FAA Part 139 compliance. Carry out airport security duties, including inspections of movement areas, SIDA, fences, and gates. The Working Environment You Can Expect: This is a full-time position located in Kotzebue, Alaska, within the Western District. Expect a dynamic, fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities and conditions. You'll work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging weather or terrain. Shift work and emergency responses are part of the role, and safety is a priority. Our supportive team and ongoing training ensure you have the tools to succeed in any situation. Requirements

  • ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY
  • A current copy of your CDL with endorsements
  • A current copy of your ARFF Certification, if applicable
  • A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire.
  • Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test.
  • This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL-104-208).
