About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead in King Salmon to help us Keep Alaska Moving! SALARY INFORMATION: Equipment Operator Journey 1: $31.62 / hourly - OT Eligible Equipment Operator Journey 2: $33.44 / hourly - OT Eligible Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: $35.53 / hourly - OT Eligible What you will be doing: Equipment Operator Journey 1: Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of Highways and airports. This position will utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy equipment will be in a training capacity. Equipment Operator Journey 2: Performs airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports. Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. This position with the King Salmon Maintenance Station crew is located in King Salmon, Alaska. The crew operates and maintains our airport and highways in all conditions, year around. Whether plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions; repairing asphalt; maintaining airfield lighting and signs; or training for any emergency that may occur. Our ideal candidate will thrive in the variety of tasks and the teamwork that this busy environment offers. Opportunity exists to travel to other stations, possibly for extended periods, during the summer months to complete projects. Who We Are Looking For: Transportation: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road including cost and limits. Vehicle operation: knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, or watercraft. Problem solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Eye-hand coordination: Accurately coordinate one's eyes with one's fingers, wrists, or arms to perform job-related tasks (for example, to move, carry, or manipulate objects). Failure to obtain the required licensure within the specified timeframe shall result in termination of employment. The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions. Drug screening is required prior to operating any equipment requiring a CDL. Upon licensure, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established policy. Where applicable , the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification. Equipment Operator Journey 2: Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in accordance with 49 CFR Part 383.23, as well as compliance with the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA), is required. A valid Tanker (N) endorsement is required at the time of appointment or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire under a conditional memorandum. Management may also require the incumbent to obtain a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement; however, this is not required at the time of appointment. The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing.
