What we are looking for: ODF is looking for an Equipment Operator to provide for skilled and safe operation of heavy equipment owned and operated by the District including transports (semi-tractor/trailer), dozers, excavators, tenders, engines and other miscellaneous equipment. These goals and associated duties include: Provide operation of heavy equipment in response to wild land fire emergency incidents and serve as fire line overhead. Operate heavy equipment in non-emergency land management activities within the district. Serve as the primary operator of an initial attack fire dozer and as the primary transport (semi-tractor/trailer) driver. Coordinate and/or conduct physical labor necessary to suppress and extinguish wildfires. Duties include heavy equipment operation, pre-suppression readiness, suppression, prevention, equipment/vehicle maintenance and general building/grounds maintenance.

Requirements

  • Equipment Operator - Two (2) years of experience operating equipment specific to the needs of the recruiting agency.
  • Note: Oregon Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with air brake and tank endorsements, with NO restrictions is required at time of hire. If you successfully pass this test and are hired, you will also be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up alcohol/controlled substance testing. ODF does not have the ability to assist with obtaining a CDL.
  • Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
  • Required to pass the Work Capacity Test (WCT) at the Light level prior to appointment.
  • Maintain a fitness level to pass the WCT at the Light level annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Bull dozers and transport vehicles in the forest environment.
  • Basic knowledge of fire behavior.
  • Basic understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Mechanical knowledge and ability on various motorized equipment.
