About The Position

CTL Engineering/CTL Infrastructure has openings for multiple roles as an Equipment Operator 4 for infrastructure projects, including Core Driller, Equipment Operator, and Mechanic. CTL Infrastructure is a division of CTL Engineering, an award-winning, full-service consulting engineering firm with 15 locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA, boasting a 99-year history. The firm provides a wide range of services including civil/site design, land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, transportation design, and specialized testing services. The company is seeking Equipment Operators to play a key role in construction services on infrastructure projects, performing skilled functions in the construction and maintenance of highways and municipal waterline systems. Successful candidates will leverage their experience and acquire new skills within a cross-functional team environment. Requirements

  • Knowledge of advanced-level methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of trucks equipped to reach under bridges.
  • Knowledge of the Division of Highways Equipment Management System.
  • Knowledge of the standard safety procedures of the Division of Highways.
  • Knowledge of the nomenclature, use, and maintenance of welding equipment and cutting equipment.
  • Knowledge of acetylene, propane, and other gases, characteristic dangers, and uses with welding and cutting equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding rod specifications as outlined by the American Welding Society (AWS).
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of melting temperatures of various metals used in bridge maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of materials, design, and assembly procedures used in welding.
  • Knowledge of the type of rock, aggregate, and soil found in core drilling.
  • Knowledge of safety practices for core drilling work.
  • Skilled in the manipulation of levers and other controls that move articulating booms.
  • Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor-driven equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs.
  • Ability to train lower-level mechanics.
  • Ability to read and lay out plans.
  • Ability to cut and fit metal components in the rebuilding or repair of equipment or high steel structures.
  • Ability to regulate fuel pressure gauges on gas welding and cutting equipment.
  • Ability to climb high steel structures.
  • Ability to operate welding equipment used in highway bridge maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to operate a drilling rig, water pump, air compressor, and related equipment to drill for core samples.
  • Ability to operate a heavy truck to transport a drilling rig and related equipment.
  • Ability to assemble drilling rig and related equipment.
  • Ability to classify types of rock, aggregate, and soils from core drilling.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance on the drilling rig and related equipment.
  • Ability to maintain simple records (timecards, work repair orders).
  • For Core Driller: A valid class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required.
  • For Core Driller: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in core drilling, oil and gas drilling, or the operation of drilling equipment and augers.
  • For Equipment Operator: A valid class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required.
  • For Equipment Operator: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment in a commercial, industrial, or warehouse environment or operating construction equipment, maintenance equipment used in the maintenance or construction of roadways, or operating core drilling equipment in a coal, oil, or gas extraction field.
  • For Mechanic: A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
  • For Mechanic: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as an automotive mechanic servicing either gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
  • For IN W 4 Mechanic: Graduation from an approved auto/diesel college or proof of a current passing certificate in any 3 ASE (Automotive Service Excellence).

Responsibilities

  • Assemble drill rig and related equipment on location.
  • Position the drilling rig using a winch and steel cables.
  • Operate the drilling rig.
  • Identify and classify the rock and soil found in the drilling sample.
  • Label core boxes for depth and location of the sample.
  • Repair drilling rig and related equipment.
  • Perform pre-operational check of equipment.
  • Operate a tractor-trailer low drag to transport equipment.
  • Manipulate levers and other controls that move articulating booms.
  • Operate an under-bridge inspection truck.
  • Lead or train lower-level transportation workers.
  • Serves as a working shop leader of lower-level mechanics at the Equipment Division or District HQ.
  • Responsible for road testing or completing the final review of repairs made on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, using diagnostic equipment.
  • Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
