About The Position

The Equipment, FF Engine & Lens Manufacturing Support Engineer provides/leads technical support to manufacturing in a wide variety of HOYA products at HOYA and Distributor labs. The engineer possesses a wide range of knowledge on manufacturing equipment, procedures, products, and production processes. The Engineer plays a crucial role in the organization, liaising across various business professionals to deliver designs equipped for manufacture and providing solutions to the problems concerning the design and manufacturing process.

Requirements

  • Preferred minimum 5 years of experience as Equipment, Process or Product Validation Engineering.
  • Experience in optical manufacturing and in machine maintenance/repair is preferred.
  • May include a combination of Technical Certificates, associate’s or bachelor’s degree and work experience.
  • Experience managing multi-level projects.
  • Excellent written, communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Advanced PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work overtime.
  • Sufficient Physical ability necessary for sitting and standing for extended periods of time. The ability to occasionally Climb, Kneel, Lift, Pull, Reach, Push, Carry and Twist. Must be able to use hands to Grasp and manipulate small objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 20 LBS and on occasion up to 100 LBS.
  • Must be able to see in the normal vision range with or without correction; Vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents, job tickets, faxes, cosmetic defects, procedural and policy documents.
  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
  • Must be flexible to adjust the work schedule so as to accommodate permanent or temporary changes in work hours, including late hours, weekends, or holidays to meet business needs.
  • Must be able to travel at least 25% of time domestically. This may include weekend travel. Weekends include Friday nights, anytime on Saturday or anytime on Sunday based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supports any FF Engine manufacturing operations at HOYA and Distributor labs.
  • Schedules and reviews any new FF Engine installations at Distributor labs.
  • Analyzes and provides tools to be able to manufacture Free Form designs at HOYA and Distributor labs that meet HOYA quality standards.
  • Audits processes and products verify that final products conform to quality requirements at HOYA and Distributor labs.
  • Provides standard machine set up to be followed by labs to maximize utilization of equipment, reduce breakage and meet quality requirements.
  • Responsible to validate manufacturing processes prior to release of new lens designs. Proper documentation must be provided with range of products available, limitations, and recommendations on how to manufacture lenses.
  • Analyzes and evaluates manufacturing methods and standards. Provides solutions to problems that adversely affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Identifies, tracks, and monitors specific KPIs to measure response time, frequency of issues, and time to fix issues at Distributor labs. Performs analysis to develop continuous improvement in these KPIs.
  • Supports and assists in troubleshooting quality issues from equipment.
  • Follow up when needed communications with machine manufacturers and labs regarding equipment recurrent issues.
  • Supports equipment installations by providing labs equipment requirements for installation, DVI set up, and reviews calibration, and PM schedule.
  • Works as part of the Engineering team to support other engineers to develop long-term solutions to eliminate specific reoccurring processing problems and product/process variations.
  • Responsible for validating new production equipment and recommending the best equipment configurations available to meet production requirements.
  • Communicates IT department machinery interface needs to set up equipment with HOYA standard practices.
  • Communicate with TRD any FF Engine or lens designs issues and assists on finding resolution.
  • Provides written work instructions following HOYA standard.
