About The Position

The Epidemiologist 2 studies the occurrence of disease and other health-related conditions or events in defined populations in order to implement prevention and control measures. This position supports the Cancer Control Programs, including the Montana Central Tumor Registry and supports other chronic disease programs as needed. Responsibilities include analyzing surveillance data such as health indicators, risk factors, and disease surveillance information; analyzing programmatic and service-related data; communicating cancer incidence and mortality statistics to a wide variety of audiences; and designing and managing special surveillance and/or evaluation procedures where there is no other existing data available; developing and conducting various trainings related to epidemiological and program evaluation issues; and designing and conducting program evaluations. Requirements

  • Knowledge of surveillance concepts and theories including epidemiology, statistics, and public health practice.
  • Skill in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and skills in descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Meet minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, or a closely related degree.
  • Three years of epidemiology experience.

Nice To Haves

  • SQL programming experience and certification is preferred.
  • Prior experience in manipulating Medicaid data is highly desirable.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
