About The Position

The Epic Principle Architect serves as an expert subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the enterprise-level design, strategic oversight, and architectural integrity of assigned Epic modules. Operating with full autonomy, this role leads the most complex, high-risk initiatives and governs system-wide standards to ensure scalable and integrated EHR solutions. The Epic Principle Architect acts as a primary advisor to executive leadership, serves as the final authority for sophisticated technical challenges, and provides expert mentorship across the analyst team to drive organizational excellence.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 10 or more years of experience in healthcare IT, clinical, or related field.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Epic certification in assigned specialty area is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Architecture: Serve as the top-level authority for enterprise-level design and long-term roadmap planning, ensuring system scalability and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Executive Advisory: Act as a primary advisor to executive leadership and clinical/operational boards, translating high-level business needs into technical strategy and governance models.
  • Technical Governance: Define and enforce enterprise build standards, validation protocols, and safety/security benchmarks while overseeing high-risk, large-scale implementations and upgrades.
  • Leadership & Influence: Direct cross-functional teams and mentor junior to senior analysts, providing the final escalation point for the most complex system issues and root cause analyses.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned.
  • Architect complex medication records, dosing logic, and clinical rules to support safe medication verification and administration.
  • Lead the design of interfaces with automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs), smart pumps, compounding systems, and robotics.
  • Establish medication safety validation protocols and ensure compliance with USP <797>/<800> and ISMP standards.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership and medication safety committees to drive the pharmacy IT roadmap and clinical decision support.
