About The Position

The Epic Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining reporting and analytics solutions that leverage Epic’s Cogito suite, including Clarity, Caboodle, Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboards, SlicerDicer, and other data warehouse tools. This role works closely with clinical, operational, and financial leaders to understand data needs and deliver accurate, actionable insights that support decision‑making, regulatory reporting, and organizational performance initiatives. The BI Developer serves as a technical expert in Epic data structures, SQL development, BI visualization tools, and data modeling, ensuring high‑quality analytics across the health system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, data analytics, computer science, healthcare, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, BI development, SQL development, or related field.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of healthcare data, workflows, or EHR systems.

  • Epic certificationssuch as: Cogito Fundamentals Clarity Data Model (module‑specific) Caboodle Data Model SlicerDicer Administration
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Crystal Reports, etc.).
  • Experience with Epic reporting tools (RWB, Radar, SlicerDicer).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, ETL pipelines, and dimensional modeling.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare or Epic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize Epic‑based reports and dashboards using Reporting Workbench, Radar, SlicerDicer, and other Epic tools.
  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries against Epic Clarity and Caboodle databases.
  • Build ETL processes, data pipelines, and semantic layers to support enterprise analytics initiatives.
  • Create, enhance, and maintain BI solutions for operational, clinical, financial, and quality reporting.
  • Develop standardized data models and reusable components to support analytics across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain SSIS packages
  • Validate data accuracy and consistency across Clarity, Caboodle, and downstream BI systems.
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies, performance issues, and workflow‑related reporting gaps.
  • Collaborate with application analysts to ensure workflows support accurate data capture.
  • Maintain metadata, data dictionaries, and documentation for data sources and reporting structures.
  • Conduct requirements‑gathering sessions with clinical, operational, and business leaders to define report specifications and KPIs.
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements and actionable BI solutions.
  • Participate in reporting governance groups and contribute to prioritization and data standards.
  • Communicate system changes, reporting impacts, and enhancements to stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute test plans for new BI development, Epic upgrades, ETL changes, and data model enhancements.
  • Monitor reporting performance, optimize SQL queries, and improve dashboard efficiency.
  • Support end users with data interpretation, analytics training, and issue resolution.
  • Participate in go‑lives, upgrades, and new Epic module implementations to ensure reporting readiness.
  • Ensure reporting solutions comply with HIPAA, data governance, and security standards.
  • Support regulatory reporting, quality measurement, and audit needs.
  • Maintain secure access and proper permissions for data sources and reporting environments.
