About The Position

The Beaker Epic Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of the Epic Beaker laboratory information system (LIS). This role collaborates with clinical laboratory teams, pathologists, IT staff, and Epic representatives to ensure the Beaker module meets the needs of the laboratory operations and supports high-quality patient care. The analyst will also play a key role in upgrades, workflow optimization, troubleshooting, and user training.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of laboratory workflows, processes, and regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
  • Proficiency in building and configuring test catalogs, lab instruments, specimen workflows, and result routing in Epic.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Background in clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience working as an Epic Beaker Analyst or similar role.
  • Epic Beaker certification (Clinical Pathology and/or Anatomic Pathology).
  • Previous experience with EHR implementation or optimization projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Medical Technology IT, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Experience with instrument interfacing (e.g., using HL7, middleware).
  • Knowledge of other Epic modules such as Orders, Willow, or Cupid.
  • Experience with reporting tools like Radar or Reporting Workbench in Epic.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate system performance, ensuring optimal functionality and data integrity.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure system integration across Epic modules and other hospital systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation for application workflows, build, testing, and training.
  • Provide end-user support and training when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Analyze laboratory workflow processes to identify areas for improvement and implement optimized solutions within the Epic Beaker module.
  • Build, configure, test, and maintain Epic Beaker applications, including clinical pathology (CP) and anatomic pathology (AP), if applicable.
  • Collaborate with lab staff, clinicians, and IT professionals to ensure successful integration of lab systems with other Epic modules (e.g., Orders, Results, Cupid).
  • Participate in Epic Beaker upgrades and new feature implementations.
  • Translate clinical requirements into system configuration and technical specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, ensuring minimal disruption to clinical operations.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining documentation, including test scripts, workflows, user guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide support during system go-lives and on-call coverage as needed.
  • Conduct user training sessions and support change management initiatives.
  • Stay current on Epic’s enhancement releases and functionality updates related to Beaker.
