About The Position

The Epic Health Information Management (HIM) Analyst is responsible for the design, build, support, and optimization of Epic HIM applications, including Chart Tracking, Release of Information (ROI), Coding, Deficiency Tracking, Document Imaging, Identity, Care Everywhere, and related workflows. This role ensures regulatory compliance, supports accuracy and integrity of the legal medical record, and collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to improve efficiency and data quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, IT, business, HIM, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1–3+ years of EHR experience, ideally in Epic.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to translate operational needs into technical solutions
  • Experience in the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Discretion and ability to handle sensitive information
  • Time management and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Epic HIM certification or proficiency (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).
  • Familiarity with clinical operations, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Epic tools such as Hyperspace, Reporting Workbench, and SmartForms a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business and clinical requirements to develop system solutions aligned with best practices.
  • Participate in system upgrades, release management, and new feature implementation.
  • Design, configure, and maintain Epic HIM applications including chart correction, identity, deficiency tracking, and ROI workflows.
  • Support document management functions such as scanning, indexing, chart completion, and release processes.
  • Maintain system-wide HIM settings to ensure accurate chart management and compliance.
  • Perform application upgrades, testing, and new feature implementations.
  • Investigate issues, identify root causes, and develop long‑term solutions.
  • Use Sherlock logs and Epic-provided tools to resolve issues and collaborate with Epic Technical Support when needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving chart errors, patient identity merges, chart deficiencies, and workflow problems.
  • Support regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission).
  • Monitor and maintain documentation integrity and medical record completeness.
  • Assist in monitoring work queues related to releases, deficiencies, identity, and scanning.
  • Work with clinicians, scheduling teams, and operational leaders to understand workflows and translate needs into system functionality.
  • Participate in application workgroups, governance committees, and project teams.
  • Communicate system changes, training needs, and upgrade impacts to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance, ensuring optimal functionality and data integrity.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure system integration across Epic modules and other hospital systems.
  • Partner with HIM leadership, coding teams, clinicians, and IT staff to optimize HIM workflows.
  • Participate in governance meetings, operational workgroups, and improvement initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and system enhancements.
  • Develop and execute testing strategies for new builds, patches, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including build specifications, workflow diagrams, and change logs.
  • Create and maintain documentation for application workflows, build, testing, and training.
  • Document system build, workflows, work queue processes, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support training teams by providing build knowledge, preparing training materials, or validating workflows.
  • Provide on‑site support during go-live, optimizations, and new clinic rollouts.
  • Provide end-user support and training when needed.
