About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to support environmental compliance, groundwater monitoring, and reporting efforts at our Haz Waste Landfill in Kettleman City, CA. Conducts basic tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Strong time management skills; able to meet deadlines and manage schedules effectively.
  • Experienced in documentation, tracking, and familiar with compliance requirements and permits.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D,
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D, plus additional or specialized training
  • No experience zero to four years previous experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and package ground water samples for lab analysis.
  • Operate and troubleshoot field equipment independently.
  • Assist with facility inspections and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepares samples for analysis in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accurate packaging and documentation for laboratory shipment.
  • Conducts basic chemical and physical laboratory and field tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances.
  • Operates pumps and generators to extract groundwater samples independently in remote, rural locations, troubleshooting instruments and machinery as needed.
  • Collects water samples from raw, semi processed or processed water, industrial waste water, or water from other sources to assess pollution problem, adhering strictly to established sampling programs and schedules.
  • Manages consumables and supplies, including ordering bottle sets and filters, and coordinates sampling schedules to ensure compliance with all deadlines.
  • Prepares samples for testing, records data, prepares summaries and charts for review, and develops a report detailing activities performed and results received.
  • Sets monitoring equipment to provide flow of information.
  • Installs, operates, and performs routine maintenance on gas and fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation.
  • Assists with the installation of routine equipment and instrumentation.
  • Operates fixed or mobile monitoring or data collection station.
  • Conducts bacteriological or other tests related to research in environmental or pollution control activity.
  • Audits properties of samples collected to identify physical evidence of environmental releases.
  • Maintains detailed documentation and tracking for all sampling, servicing, and maintenance activities to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Supports RCRA inspections by checking for outdated labels and ensuring departmental compliance.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, managing schedules and prioritizing conflicting tasks, upholding high ethical standards and integrity.
