About The Position

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Melville, NY or New York City seeks an Environmental Technician. As an Environmental Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with sampling, testing and inspections for asbestos surveys, reviewing and understanding site plans, completing asbestos, mold, lead and indoor air quality inspection reports for insurance companies, private industries and school districts. Travel is required for this position and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites. This position is flexible and can be Part-Time or Full-time. As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy. Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available. Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple inspections and deadlines daily.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Current NYSDOL certifications highly desired: Mold Assessor Asbestos Inspector Asbestos Project Monitor / Air Sampling Technician Asbestos Project Designer (a plus)
  • NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator certification (a plus).
  • EPA Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor certification (a plus).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing field conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections for mold assessments, asbestos surveys, and lead-based paint evaluations across residential, commercial, and institutional properties.
  • Perform asbestos air sampling and project monitoring during abatement activities, ensuring compliance with NYSDOL and NYC DEP regulations.
  • Collect and document samples, maintain proper chain of custody, and ensure accurate field records.
  • Prepare detailed and timely inspection and assessment reports for clients including insurance companies, school districts, and private industry.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Travel daily to multiple job sites; use of personal vehicle may be required.
