Then we have an opportunity for you! We currently have an opening for an Environmental Technician to join our team located in Jacksonville, IL (west plant location). Responsibilities Your role: The Environmental Technician position will report directly to the EHS Manager. This position will support the EHS manager as the primary administrator of all environmental programs. The Environmental Technician will maintain environmental programs while playing a support role in the prevention of injuries and illnesses to employees. The Environmental Technician will perform all assigned duties to assist the EHS Manager in ensuring the plant remains compliant with current environmental regulations and corporate requirements. Requirements

  • Two year degree (Occupational Safety & Health—preferred).
  • 2+ years of related professional environmental, health and safety experience.
  • Training large groups of employees on safety and environmental issues
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills.
  • Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
  • Well-developed leadership and motivational skills with proven ability to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
  • Training: RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Asbestos Operations and Maintenance (16 hour) DOT Hazardous Materials
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 5%) on an overnight basis.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all environmental programs, files, training, and collects/updates environmental data to ensure the facility maintains compliance with air, wastewater, storm-water, SPCC, SARA, hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil, PCB, asbestos, lead, safe drinking water, refrigerant, groundwater remediation, DOT and other applicable environmental regulations and corporate requirements.
  • Maintains the environmental records filing system (electronic and file cabinets).
  • Provides support in the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Maintain compliance with air emissions standards through data collection, tracking and updating the Air Emissions Spreadsheet as well as verifying compliance with Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE). Support EHS Manager in completing annual Air Emissions Reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with Wastewater requirements by collecting wastewater samples, tracking wastewater discharge, reporting discharges to POTW.
  • Maintain compliance with Storm Water/SPCC requirements by conducting SPCC/SWPPP inspections, conducting storm water inspections of outfalls, coordinate sump and pit inspections, submit required annual reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain compliance with hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil and recycling requirements by conducting weekly/monthly required inspections, sampling, tracking and arranging timely off-site disposal.
  • Maintain compliance with SARA by conducting annual chemical inventory, tracking and completing annual Tier II reporting and other applicable recordkeeping, as required.
  • Maintain compliance with asbestos requirements through annual ACM/PCM inspections, maintains the Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Plan, and conducts required environmental employee training.
  • Leads and/or assists in the mailings/correspondence to the various regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with the EHS on-boarding process for new hires.
  • Serves as a backup to the EHS Manager when not available.
  • Assists in injury, near miss, and fire investigation.
  • Assists in the implementation of EHS incentive programs.
  • Participates and/or facilitates the plant’s EHS Committees.
  • Leads and/or assists in conducting EHS related audits. (ASATs, etc.)
  • Performs other tasks as directed by the EHS Manager.
