About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to support environmental compliance programs and conduct daily operation and maintenance of the Gas Collection & Control System (GCCS) at Potrero Hills Landfill. This role is essential in ensuring the site remains compliant with State and Federal regulations while maintaining safe and environmentally responsible operations. This position blends hands‑on fieldwork with technical environmental responsibilities—ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, troubleshooting systems, and reviewing environmental data.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor field conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in environmental fieldwork, construction, mechanical/electrical systems, or similar hands‑on roles.
  • Familiarity with landfill gas systems, pumps, motors, blowers, or flare operations.
  • Technical or trade‑school training in mechanical systems, environmental science, or instrumentation.
  • Experience working with PVC/HDPE piping.
  • Comfort using data loggers and interpreting basic operational data.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting pumps, motors, or pneumatic equipment.
  • Strong computer skills for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and write clear reports.
  • Team‑oriented communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct facility and regulatory inspections.
  • Review analytical data for groundwater, leachate, stormwater, and landfill gas.
  • Maintain environmental records, logs, and documentation.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting regulatory reports.
  • Support sampling for groundwater, stormwater, landfill gas, and source testing.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies as directed by leadership.
  • Operate and maintain GCCS wells, piping, pumps, blowers, and flare systems.
  • Calibrate and use handheld electronic equipment for wellfield monitoring.
  • Perform valve/vacuum adjustments and interpret wellfield trends.
  • Complete preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic/electric pumps and measure/monitor well liquid levels.
  • Repair PVC and HDPE piping.
  • Adjust flare operations to maintain field vacuum and ensure compliance.
  • Support well installations, GCCS expansions, and stormwater improvement projects.
  • Maintain scientific, mechanical, and monitoring equipment.
  • Respond to environmental or GCCS‑related emergencies as part of an on‑call rotation.
  • Act as an environmental point of contact during inspections and permit activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain safe work practices in all field conditions, weather, and terrain.
