About The Position

This position will support the NASA Glenn storm water, waste water, and above-ground storage tank programs. The Environmental Technician's responsibilities include: assisting with storm water facility inspections; visual storm water sampling; outfall screening; illicit discharge tracking; audit support; NPDES sampling; water sampling; calibration and maintenance of testing equipment; annual inspections of above-ground storage tanks; review of inspection records; and Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure Plan updates. This role will also provide storm water education to Center employees and conduct pollution prevention inspections. Additional responsibilities may include support of the Waste Management team, including waste site inspections, waste characterization, review and management of shipping and disposal records, completion of reports, and spill response/remediation. US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate's Degree and college hours towards an environmental science or related bachelor's degree
  • Ability to work under variable field conditions (weather, insects, and/or limited personnel and vehicle access)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, for presentations, reports, and other uses
  • Strong interpersonal skills as the position involves interfacing with client and on-site personnel
  • Ability to evaluate problems as they arise and identify next steps
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to adhering to all safety policies and procedures
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency
  • Ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance
