About The Position

Ohio EPA wants you to join our team as an environmental supervisor in the Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance (DEFA) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio. Looking to improve your career and the environment? We got you! You'll play a key role in DEFA by guiding a dedicated team working to provide low-cost loans and grants for drinking water improvement projects throughout the state. As supervisor, you’ll review and track project nominations, applications, and schedules to ensure compliance with program and state requirements. You’ll track loan/grant costs and approve payment requests and maintain accurate and complete files and project documents in our AIMS database. You’ll assign projects to staff and guide them on reviewing applications and navigating project specifics. You’ll track and monitor staff work, conduct performance reviews, and develop, recommend, and implement staff professional development activities. You’ll maintain close coordination and communication with other DEFA sections to ensure timely and accurate execution of division responsibilities and alignment with the division’s goals. You’ll also communicate with external parties, answer inquiries from citizens, funding applicants and public officials, and represent DEFA at public meetings and events. Experience in program coordination or project management is a plus and the ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of budgeting, accounting and financial reviews, strong communication and organization skills, and be able to juggle multiple projects and prioritize effectively.

Requirements

  • 5 yrs. trg. or 5 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology &/or other comparable science field &/or mathematics &/or history &/or archaeology (i.e., latter two subject areas pertain only to Department of Transportation) evaluating & approving complex engineering design plans, conducting most sensitive environmental surveillance activities &/or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections, investigating complex public health &/or environmental pollution problems, initiating complex enforcement actions, or assisting in planning, developing & maintaining specific environmental projects & programs
  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. as lead worker.
  • Training &/or experience must correspond to environmental area to be assigned.
  • Positions in Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding those in solid waste planning unit, also require valid Ohio certificate of registration as sanitarian or valid Ohio certificate as sanitarian-in-training.
  • 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 2, 85862.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
